Hotel Villa Gasparini. The past in the present
Hotel Villa Gasparini is an 18th century mansion that well reflects the splendour of the golden age of Riviera del Brenta.
The owners of this demesne, the Gasparini family, were originally from the Orient.
The building has been painstakingly restored, retaining all the original features of its historical and artistic heritage, including the traditional Venetian terrazzo floors, made from coloured marble chips ground with crushed stone and stucco, the 18th century gilt-wood window pelmets, and the ceilings with the original exposed beams.
Distant echoes from the Orient that had such a strong influence on Venetian style can be seen in the marquetry of the inlaid wood mantel and the partitions of the breakfast room.
The Hotel is located in Dolo, one of the town along the Riviera del Brenta just 15 km from Venice and Padua.
Each of the 15 rooms at Hotel Villa Gasparini has been exquisitely designed and decorated in the sumptuous 18th century Venetian style, and boast original gold-shot silk curtains, luxurious damasks and rich red velvets.
The en-suite bathrooms feature a Jacuzzi tub or crystal shower stall with Bossini accessories, hair dryer and heated tower rail. Some of the chandeliers are in Murano glass in various styles, including the magnificent Ca’ Rezzonico chandelier in the lobby, while others are early 20th century Venetian crystal.
Hotel Villa Gasparini is the result of the harmonious balance between the grace and elegance of the past and the most modern conveniences like individually controlled air conditioning, mini bar, in-room high speed internet access, LCD television, satellite and pay TV, designed to cater for the most demanding guests.
RIVIERA DEL BRENTA:
A unique historical, architectural and cultural environment
The river Brenta, the waterway connecting Venice to Padua, was the ideal extension of Venice onto the mainland, almost a continuation of the Grand Canal, lined with dozens of palatial villas dotting the banks of this ancient river.
The Serenissima Repubblica began its expansion on the mainland in the 15th century, after it had settled its disputes with Padua.
At the time, Venice was at the apex of its maritime power, and the Venetian patricians were able to invest considerable capital in their mainland agricultural estates.
The best architects were called in to design the stately country homes, a far cry from the traditional farmhouse, so splendid that a new name was coined for them - villa.
Between the 17th and 18th century it experienced a golden age which turned it into a privileged holiday resort for rich Venetian nobles.
Owning a country estate with a villa where to entertain family and friends became a must, and when the summer heat became oppressive in Venice, the nobles would have themselves rowed across the lagoon and up the Brenta, on whose cooler shores they organized parties and revelries and engaged in amorous dalliances.
